Accessibility
Manifold should be usable by everybody who writes: from the keyboard alone, with a screen reader, magnified, or in high contrast. This page says what has been done, what is known not to work yet, and who to tell.
The standard
The website and the app aim at level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, which is the level Israeli Standard 5568 adopts.
What has been done
- Every page of this site, and the app's window, panels, menus and dialogs, are checked with an automated accessibility checker, in light and dark and in both languages, with nothing serious or critical left open.
- Everything can be reached from the keyboard: a link to skip to the content on every page, a visible focus ring, dialogs that take the focus, keep it, close with Escape and give it back, and the document tabs moved between with the arrow keys.
- Text meets the contrast the standard asks for, in both themes.
- Images carry a text alternative; controls drawn as icons are named.
- The interface speaks English and Hebrew, each in its own direction.
What does not work yet
- A formula is announced by its LaTeX source, not read as spoken mathematics.
- The app has been checked with tools and from the keyboard, but not yet by people who use a screen reader every day. If you are one, I would be grateful to hear from you.
Tell me
If anything on the site or in the app is hard to use, write to Nitzan Daloomy, who is responsible for accessibility, at [email protected]. Say what you were trying to do and what got in the way; I answer, and I fix it.
