Manifold

A calm, modern editorfor writing mathematics.

You think about the mathematics.Manifold thinks about the page.

LaTeX editors show you the formula. Manifold shows you the page.

Writing LaTeX, you see the formula as you type it — whether it fits between the margins, you find out from the PDF.

What people ask before they download.

Is Manifold free?
The editor is free, needs no account, and always will. Keeping documents in your account, sending copies, writing together and the model Manifold hosts are part of a plan, from $10 a month, with a free taste of each.
Do I need to know LaTeX?
No. Structure is chosen from a list and formulas are typed with keys. If you know LaTeX, type it and it renders as you go.
Can I still get LaTeX out of it?
Yes. Export a .tex file whenever you like, with Hebrew handled by XeLaTeX and polyglossia, or export a PDF of the pages on screen.
Will my existing documents open?
Yes. Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs files, LaTeX and Overleaf projects, Markdown notes, Jupyter notebooks, Typst and .lyx files all open, with their formulas as formulas you can edit, and their layouts, tables, figures, footnotes and cross references. Anything that cannot come across is named rather than dropped.
Where are my documents kept?
In a file on your own disk. Nothing you write leaves your computer unless you ask it to.
How well does it handle Hebrew?
Hebrew and English were the starting point. Every paragraph finds its own direction, formulas always read left to right, the interface speaks both languages, and proofreading checks both.
What does it need installed?
Nothing for writing, formulas and LaTeX export. Chromium for PDF export, TeX Live to change a drawing and a local model for writing help are optional: Settings lists what is missing, says what each is for, and installs it for you.
Why does my computer warn me the first time I open it?
The builds are not signed yet, so macOS and Windows ask once. The download page gives the one step that gets past it on each system.
Is there a version for the browser?
Yes. The same editor runs in a tab on a computer, with nothing to install. Phones and tablets are not supported yet.

Free to download, and free to keep writing in.

Free, with no account. Also for every other system, or in your browser.
